Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Vietnam
Vietnam is committed to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals designed to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice by 2030. The Vietnamese government integrates these goals into national policies and collaborates across various sectors to promote sustainable development.
National Implementation and Monitoring:
Vietnam has established a framework for implementing and monitoring the SDGs:
- The Ministry of Planning and Investment: Coordinates national efforts to achieve the SDGs, ensuring alignment with domestic policies and international commitments.
- The General Statistics Office: Monitors and reports on SDG indicators, providing data to track progress and inform policy decisions.
- Local Governments and Communities: Play a crucial role in implementing SDGs at the grassroots level, tailoring actions to local needs and engaging with communities.
International Cooperation:
Vietnam actively participates in international cooperation to promote sustainable development globally:
- Development Partnerships: Collaborating with bilateral and multilateral partners, donor agencies, and international organizations to mobilize resources and support SDG implementation.
- South-South Cooperation: Sharing knowledge, expertise, and best practices with other developing countries to facilitate mutual learning and capacity building in sustainable development.

Vietnam calls for stronger ESCAP commitments to realise SDGs
VOV.VN – Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet attended the 79th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 15-16, examining ways to accelerate climate actions for sustainable development.
He expressed concern about the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and current global challenges such as conflicts, food and water insecurity, natural disasters, and biodiversity degradation, and environmental pollution to socio-economic development and recovery, especially the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In this context, Viet suggested strengthening regional cooperation in ‘climate-smart’ trade and investment, tourism, connectivity, energy transformation, digital transformation and sustainable urban development. He called on developed countries to make stronger commitments in terms of financial support, technology transfer, knowledge sharing and practical experience, at a global Sustainable Development Goals Summit to be held in New York in September 2023, and the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) due to take place in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this year.

Vietnam Human Development Index (HDI) | Human Development Report
Thirty years ago, UNDP created a new way to conceive and measure progress. Instead of using growth in GDP as the sole measure of development, we ranked the world’s countries by their human development: by whether people in each country have the freedom and opportunity to live the lives they value.
