Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Japan

Japan is deeply committed to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals designed to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice by 2030. The Japanese government integrates these goals into national policies and collaborates across various sectors to promote sustainable development.

National Implementation and Monitoring:
Japan has established a robust framework for implementing and monitoring the SDGs:

  • The Cabinet Office: Coordinates national efforts to achieve the SDGs, ensuring alignment with domestic policies and international commitments.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Represents Japan in international forums and partnerships related to sustainable development, including the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.
  • Local Governments and Municipalities: Play a crucial role in implementing SDGs at the community level, tailoring actions to local needs and contexts.

International Cooperation:
Japan actively participates in international cooperation to promote sustainable development globally:

  • Development Assistance: Providing financial and technical support to developing countries to help them achieve the SDGs through bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
  • Research and Innovation Collaboration: Collaborating with international organizations, research institutions, and businesses to advance technological solutions and knowledge sharing in areas relevant to the SDGs.
