SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals and Indicators)
The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted at a United Nations summit in New York in 2015. For the next 15 years, the UN member states committed themselves to a partnership for peace and prosperity for all people, for the protection of the environment and the climate on planet Earth (five “P”: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership). 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with 169 targets were agreed upon. The goals cover a wide range of topics: Eradication of poverty and hunger, gender justice, climate change, water management and many more. Monitoring is carried out at the UN level by using a set of currently 231 indicators.
In Austria, Statistics Austria, as the National Statistical Institute, has taken over the compilation of the national SDG indicator set in 2017. Currently, about 200 indicators are available, the time series start with 2010.
