Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in China
China is strongly committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals designed to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice by 2030. China integrates these goals into its national policies and engages in international cooperation to promote sustainable development worldwide.
National Implementation and Monitoring:
China has established a comprehensive framework for implementing and monitoring the SDGs:
- The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC): Coordinates national efforts to achieve the SDGs, ensuring alignment with domestic and international sustainability policies.
- The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS): Monitors and reports on SDG indicators, providing data to track progress and inform policy decisions.
- Local Governments and Municipalities: Play a critical role in implementing SDGs at the community level, tailoring actions to local needs and contexts.
International Cooperation:
China actively participates in international cooperation to promote sustainable development globally:
- Belt and Road Initiative (BRI): Integrates SDG principles into infrastructure and development projects across participating countries.
- South-South Cooperation: Shares development experiences and provides support to other developing countries in areas such as agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure.
