Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Uruguay

Uruguay is committed to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals designed to address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice by 2030. The Uruguayan government integrates these goals into national policies and collaborates across various sectors to promote sustainable development.

National Implementation and Monitoring:
Uruguay has established mechanisms for implementing and monitoring the SDGs:

  • The Office of Planning and Budget (OPP): Coordinates national efforts to achieve the SDGs, aligning policies and budgets with the SDG framework.
  • National Institute of Statistics (INE): Monitors and reports on SDG indicators, providing data to track progress and inform policy decisions.
  • Local Governments and Civil Society: Play an active role in SDG implementation, contributing local perspectives and engaging communities in sustainable development initiatives.

International Cooperation:
Uruguay actively engages in international cooperation to promote sustainable development globally:

  • Development Partnerships: Collaborating with international organizations, bilateral partners, and donor agencies to access technical expertise, funding, and knowledge sharing opportunities.
  • Regional Integration: Participating in regional initiatives and partnerships within Mercosur and other Latin American forums to address common challenges and promote sustainable development in the region.
